Michiel is gespecialiseerd in grensoverschrijdende M&A en private equity. Ook geeft hij advies op het gebied van ondernemingsrecht, corporate governance en joint ventures. Hij geeft sinds 2004 leiding aan het China Team van Houthoff.
Van 2001 tot en met 2007 was Michiel managing partner van Houthoff. Verder was hij lid van de Board en later voorzitter van Lex Mundi, 's werelds grootste en meest gerenommeerde internationale netwerk van onafhankelijke advocatenkantoren.
