Matthew specialises in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, advising and acting for clients in complex international disputes under many of the major institutions and rules including ICC, LCIA, DIAC, NAI, and UNCITRAL Rules across a variety of seats. He coaches Leiden University's team for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition and has previously coached teams from Afghanistan and the Middle East. While in law school, his team reached the final 16 of the Willem C. Vis Moot, and Matthew received an honourable mention as Best Oralist.

Matthew is a member of Young ICCA, ICC YAF and NAI Jong Oranje, and he participated in the 2018-2019 cycle of the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme under the mentorship of Donald Francis Donovan. Since 2021, Matthew has been selected to participate as a Group Advisor in the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme for 2021-2022. In this role, he will share his arbitration knowledge, practical know-how and provide career advice to the mentees in his mentor group. Matthew has published on arbitration in the journal Transnational Dispute Management and serves on the editorial board of the Vindobona Journal of International Commercial Law and Arbitration.
