Pernille heads the research group of the Real Estate practice group. Houthoff has a leading role in the real estate sector. This requires a sound, legal-scientific basis. For this reason, the Real Estate research group was set up in September 2018 and focuses on the property-law structuring of real estate innovations. This is also named 'juritecture': the lawyer as the architect of the legal environment. New developments are sometimes hard to fit into a civil code that was not written in view of these developments. To best advise our clients on the possibility of certain legal constructs, a scientific substantiation is indispensable – particularly when a construct has not been applied before.

Pernille is a university lecturer at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law at Utrecht University, she is a researcher for the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law, and is a member of the Think Tank Governance floating cities. She also gives various classes on property law. She obtained her doctorate from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2016 with a thesis entitled 'Accesssion to immovable property'.
